Our purpose
The purpose of the association is to elevate the status and value of cats. We highlight the shared history of cats and humans, as well as the usefulness of cats to people and society as a whole.
-
The cat is a pet and a domestic animal. As an association, we demand that cats must be allowed to fulfill their species-specific needs, at least in part.
-
Cats considered feral must not be killed in traps or on sight; instead, all stray cats must be taken to animal shelters for inspection, and only a veterinarian may euthanize cats that cannot be helped otherwise.
-
It must be recognized and respected that the cat is a useful working animal on farms and at horse stables as a natural solution to mice and rat problems.
-
We demand microchipping for cats that roam outdoors on their own. We strongly recommend neutering/spaying for cats that roam outdoors independently. We accept the outdoor roaming of unsterilized cats provided that any kittens are born indoors, and the owner deworms and vaccinates the kittens and secures suitable homes for them.
-
We demand that municipalities allocate sufficient resources to animal welfare organizations for the care of stray animals.
Support our mission
Here is the English translation, polished and formatted for your membership section:
The more of us there are, the stronger the cat's voice will be heard. Kissojen Oikeudet ry publishes press releases, prepares statements, and assists private cat owners in defending cats' rights.
We use membership fees to cover the association's administrative costs, such as website maintenance and banking fees. With the remaining funds, we support designated causes that help cats both in Finland and abroad. We announce the support targets and amounts on our Facebook page.
You can find our annual report in the News section.
The supporting membership fee is €20 per year. As a supporting member, you will receive an invitation to the annual meeting, where you can bring up topics that are important to you for discussion.
